As a Life Coach, one of the most popular excuses that I hear people give for not being able to achieve something they desire is, "I don't have enough time."
Not enough time?
I agree 100%! You DON"T have enough time. None of us do. Your life is exactly like mine in that respect. So if we agree that none of us has 'enough' time, then it becomes vitally important that we use the time we do have in a manner that benefits us the most.
Time is the ultimate equalizer. It doesn't play favorites. It doesn't change. It doesn't care who you are or what you desire. Time is loved by some people and hated by others. Time can be used to accomplish miraculous and tremendous things, or it can be wasted and frittered away.
Relatively speaking, we are all given the same amount of time in this physical dimension to live our lives. None of us is certain exactly how long we have here. All we know for sure is that our time here is limited.
Every morning, no matter where you live, the sun rises and you are given another twenty four hours to do with what you wish.
Here's where the problem starts. When people tell me they don't have enough time, what they're really saying is that they don't have any extra time to do the things they want to. They look at their life and they don't see any unused chunks of time laying around that they can use to work towards their goals and desires. Their life is full.
I know. So is mine. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week we are all doing something. Between sleeping, eating, family and work we often simply run out of hours in the day. So how in the world can we find the time to do the things we need to do to have the life we want?
Well, the question I ask next is this: Are the things you are doing now moving you closer to your wants and desires? In other words, is the way you are spending your time helping you achieve your goals?
If not, why not?
If you desire changes in your life, you have to make changes in your life. Write that down. Never mind, I wrote it down for you. Copy that line, print it out and stick it on your computer.
IF YOU DESIRE CHANGES IN YOUR LIFE, YOU HAVE TO MAKE CHANGES IN YOUR LIFE. - Bob Crawford
YOU have to make changes. Nobody can do it for you. Those changes may be small or they may be huge. They may seem easy or they may seem extremely difficult. It really depends on the level of your desire. The stronger your desire, the more willing you will be to make the necessary changes in your life.
You see, the people who are successful in life are the ones who live their dreams instead of dreaming their lives. They turn off the TV, get off the couch and take action that will bring them closer to the life they want. They know that how they spend their time is in direct proportion to the speed at which they will achieve the life they desire.
It's what I call the Couch Factor. How far away from your comfy couch will you go to claim your dream? For many people the answer is 'not too far.' They may say that they want a better life, a better job, or better relationships, but they continue to choose to spend their time in the same way they have been, hoping for the universe to swoop in and change their lives for them.
You can't afford to wait for your dream to come to you. You have to reach out and claim it. Often, that means making changes in the way you spend your time.
I know, I know. You don't have the time. Well, if you want something badly enough you'll find the time somehow. You'll exchange something you are doing now, that isn't moving you toward your dreams, for something else, something that will move you forward, in the direction of your dreams.
What if I told you that you already have all the time you need to achieve whatever it is you desire? That without changing a single waking moment of the life you have now you could still begin to make progress toward your dreams. Interested?
Imagine this: Tomorrow morning you get a phone call from the Big Boss. That's right, the Universe calls you on the phone and tells you that for the next six and a half weeks, instead of going to your normal job every day, you now get to stay home and work on achieving your dreams. You get to spend 40 hours a week for six and a half weeks doing nothing but working on your goals and desires. How much do you think you could accomplish? How many of your dreams would become a reality? Would you use that time wisely?
Guess what? I received that phone call. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm using that time, right now, to achieve my goals and dreams.
Here's the secret. Get up one hour earlier than usual. That's it. The easiest way I know of to squeeze extra time out of your day is to get up an hour early. Simply exchange one hour of sleep for one hour of working on your dream. Do that five days a week for a year and you will have devoted the equivalent of six and a half, forty hour work weeks to your dreams.
That's an amazing amount of time that you'll gain, and trust me you won't miss the sleep. You'll be surprised at how much you can accomplish working for just one hour a morning, five mornings a week.
I think your phone is ringing....
Peace.
